Cuney, Texas is located in northwestern Cherokee County and has two major airports (Dallas Love Field and Dallas Fort-Worth International Airport) within 125 miles and is less than 30 minutes from Athens Municipal Airport. Cuney is centrally located between many major cities including under two hours from Downtown Dallas and Waco and only 40 minutes from Tyler. The city has grown 78.7 percent from 2019 to 2020 and residents have easy access to one area mall, two outlet malls in Athens, and is in close proximity to area colleges like Trinity Valley Community College and Jacksonville College. Cuney is also close to recreational facilities at Lake Palestine and Cedar Creek Reservoir. 


Cuney is within Cherokee County lying just southeast of the DFW Metroplex. Cherokee County is located in central East Texas, bordered on the north by Smith County, on the east by Rusk and Nacogdoches counties, on the south by Angelina County, and on the west by Anderson and Houston counties. It was named for the Cherokee Indians, who lived in the area and is known for its historic land. Cherokee County boasts an excellent job growth with new development coming to the area. The county boasts over four power plants that serve a population of about 2,857 citizens. Among the famous power plants in the area is the Neches Station. Neches Station transforms wind energy into bulk electrical power and supplies it to the Cherokee County electrical system, which then distributes it to consumers in Texas, and provides employeement to hundreds of residents in the surrounding area.
